What we covered on our callOwnership, backup power & your savings plan
The plan we walked through together on October 22:
Own your solar. No lease escalator.
Your loan finances a system you own. There is no annual lease-style payment increase. Applying funds to principal can reduce what you owe.
One compact Tesla Powerwall 3.
The battery you liked on our call stores energy for later and provides backup power. Backup duration depends on your charge level and what’s running.
The grid is still there when you need it.
Yes—just as you asked, your home stays connected. When solar and stored energy aren’t enough, you can draw from the grid. Utility charges can still apply.
A design for your Maine home.
About 11 kW of solar, with the tree changes we discussed considered in the design. The site review will confirm the final layout, shading, and battery placement.
Protection for the long run.
We discussed insurance-backed protection for your solar and battery. We’ll walk through the coverage certificate with you so you know the terms and what’s covered.
Your incentive savings team.
Your incentive savings PDF explains the plan; there is nothing to sign or accept for it right now. Prosper coordinates the next steps. Once benefits are confirmed and available, we help apply the amount you choose to your loan, with the lender confirming the new payment.

MAINE BATTERY REWARDS
Your battery. Money back.
Maine’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) rewards your battery for helping the grid during events.

Compared with a $54,466 system purchase price. Your report combines a federal credit with depreciation- and interest-related tax savings across different years.
Estimates require tax-team review. This is not an upfront refund or a net-profit calculation. Financing interest and other costs are additional.

And the $63,341 report headline? It combines $57,581 in modeled tax benefits with $5,760 in illustrated VPP rewards over 10 years. The VPP amount is separate annual reward income, not a tax credit or first-year refund.
How can savings exceed the system price?
The $54,466 purchase price does not include all future financing interest. The report models potential tax savings on interest over the loan term, plus credits and depreciation-related savings. A combined total can also include years of battery rewards. Each has its own timing and eligibility.
Paying down the loan sooner reduces future interest—and the projected tax savings on that interest. Benefits must actually become available before you can apply them to principal.
Based on your updated October 24 report. Its first-year timing and loan illustration still need reconciliation. The tax team must confirm eligible business use, the assumed domestic-content bonus, depreciation treatment, and usable benefits. No first-year refund or revised loan payment is confirmed here.
Tax codes & formsThe rules behind the illustration · official sources
These are the business-tax provisions being reviewed for your plan. Owning a home with solar does not by itself establish eligibility. Your tax professional confirms eligible use, basis, timing, limitations, and the correct filing-year forms.
Clean Electricity Investment Credit for qualifying investment. The report models a credit including an assumed domestic-content bonus; eligibility and equipment documentation must be confirmed.
Eligible business or income-producing property may qualify for depreciation. Section 168 covers MACRS; §168(k) addresses bonus depreciation. The tax team selects the applicable treatment and reconciles the report’s timing.
Interest deductibility depends on how the debt is used and applicable limits. Personal interest is generally not deductible. Form 8990 applies when business-interest limitation reporting is required; not every taxpayer files it.
You do not need to fill these forms out here. Your tax professional determines which apply, including any credit, passive-activity, or loss limitations. IRS links open the latest available revision.

How your battery rewards workTiming, backup reserve & official program links
Your Powerwall can earn payments by sharing stored energy during grid events. Tesla illustrates about $576 per full year for one Powerwall, based on actual participation.
Tesla illustrates 10 years of participation: about $5,760 per Powerwall at that annual amount. Its customer agreement renews annually; future rewards depend on continued participation and program terms.
The payment is $160 per average kW delivered across events. A partial first year, opt-outs, and lower output reduce earnings. Payments are annual and do not automatically reduce your loan payment.
We’ll help coordinate enrollment as soon as your system is eligible and help you choose a backup reserve for your needs. Storm Watch can prioritize backup during severe weather.
Earn credits on your electric billVersant · net energy billing
Eligible excess solar energy sent to the grid earns credits on your Versant bill. Unused credits roll forward for up to 12 months, then expire.
Prosper coordinates with your installer on the utility paperwork. Credits begin after the required agreements and approvals. They are part of your electric-bill savings; utility charges can still apply.
Protect your property-tax savingsMaine · solar equipment exemption
Qualifying solar equipment can be exempt from property tax. The exemption applies to eligible equipment value, not your entire home’s tax bill.
Prosper helps coordinate the application with Orrington’s assessor. Eligibility and filing must be confirmed; this is not a cash rebate or automatic exemption.
Program details checked October 24, 2026. Benefits depend on eligibility, approval, and performance. VPP rewards, bill credits, and tax savings have different timing. They are not guaranteed payments or an approved loan reduction.

On our call, Craig used a conservative 50% assumption in the original ≈$211/month tax-benefit illustration. The updated report models more total benefits over time. The actual amount available for a paydown—and the revised payment—must be confirmed; $211 is an illustration, not a guaranteed minimum or lender-approved payment.
If the $211 goal is achieved, what could rewards offset?
At that unconfirmed payment, $211 − $48 in illustrated monthly reward value would equal about $163/month in net budget terms. Rewards remain annual and conditional, before charging costs and any taxes. Your lender would still bill the payment it approves.

Payments begin approximately 75 days after substantial completion; your lender confirms the first due date. Extra principal payments have no prepayment penalty, but do not lower the monthly payment immediately.
Recalculation follows payments 12, 24, and 36. Available funds reduce your loan once they are applied to principal. Prosper will help you coordinate that step.
